Val d’Aran - Pla-de-Beret

Central Pyrenean valley orientated towards the Atlantic, Val d’Aran is bordered to the north by Ariège and Haute-Garonne, to the south by Alta Ribagorça and to the east by Pallars Sobirá. 30% of its territory rises above 7,000 feet.

Its cultural and, above all, linguistic specificity (aranese is the official language) have earned the valley some measure of autonomy.
8,800 inhabitants live in 30 or so villages, the most important being Vielha.

There is a lot to be discovered in Val d’Aran, Romanesque churches, museums (such as the Vielha ethnological museum or the Vilamos ecology museum), its industrial heritage (wool factory, zinc mines), its gastronomy...

In winter, the Baqueira Beret resort, with its three domains, is the largest skiing resort in the Pyrenees. In summer, hikers in search of a little adventure will enjoy its trails and paths that run for hundreds of kilometers, as well as its multiple landscapes and terrains.
