Valkenburg
Valkenburg Aan de Geul, one of the Meccas of world cycling, has hosted four World Championships, a Tour de France stage and the Amstel Gold Race.
The hilly landscape of south Linburg is ideally suited for a variety of sports : cycling, hiking, climbing, horseback riding, swimming... and offers a whole range of activities.
The marl pits are a consummate part of the town. The light-yellow stone has been exploited since Roman times, used by local inhabitants to build chateaus, farms and houses alike. Today, the network of galleries makes for a fascinating visit, with a frisson of adventure.
Valkenburg boasts over 200 classified monuments, including Holland’s oldest train station, still in use.
The city center offers a wide array of cafes, restaurants and shops... and more than its share of innovative establishments, be they for health and fitness, food or clothing.
