15:24Alain Gallopin : « He followed his instincts »
CSC sporting director, Alain Gallopin did not give Jens Voigt any orders to attack before this morning’s stage, where he pulled away from his closest rivals. “He followed his instincts and it worked. For sure, it would have been better to have had another rider up front and force the others to pace the peloton because we put in a huge effort yesterday. In the final, climb, Valverde and Klöden were isolated in their attempt to catch up to Jens. When they slowed to wait for reinforcements it was too late. It was a great effort because usually we are not that strong on this event.”
15:16Stef Clement in the lead
The 2006 Dutch national time-trial champion has set the best time so far on the 8.3km time trial.
15:14Giuseppe Martinelli : « Damiano tried everything »
Interviewed by letour.fr concerning this morning’s race in the hills of the Ardennes, in which his rider Damiano Cunego was very much a part of, the Lampre-Fondital sporting director was pleased with the performance of his team leader. “It was his first strong run of the season, he has just completed two weeks of intensive training at home and it’s good to see him attack. The final climb wasn’t long enough for him to have a chance of catching Voigt, he tried his best but it wasn’t to be. He will try to run flat out on the time trial but it is too short a distance to make a difference. It will be a good test , but the real rendezvous for Damiano will be the Tour of Italy.”
