The stage analysis

Monday 12 March 2007
stage 1 | Cloyes-sur-le-Loir > Buzançais - 186 km

Cloyes-sur-le-Loir – Buzançais

The analysis of François Lemarchand (former rider, race regulator on the A.S.O. cycling events)

Two scenarios are possible for this first stage. If logics are respected, we could well witness a bunched sprint finish with a pack of around 160 riders. But the features of this stage can also let one believe that the pack could break up in several groups: during the long portion through the Beauce area, the pack will indeed have to face severe winds. Except for the part of the course when the pack will discover the roads of the Chambord national domain, the riders will never be sheltered. It’s on this type of stage, on the way to Montargis that the whole CSC team had managed to break away from the main field, allowing Jaksche to already start considering final overall victory.
