Nice
Nice loves cycling!
Its long history with the Paris-Nice is the best proof because a mere stroll along what is undoubtedly the most beautiful cycling path in the world, the Promenade des Anglais, and its unique setting is all it takes to understand the city’s special link with "the little queen".
Among the sporting events that dot the calendar, the "Paris-Nice" is without a doubt the one that is most dear to the citizens of Nice. Each year since 1951, this prestigious stage race has been the de rigueur opening event for the international cycling season.
Created in 1933, the "Course du Soleil" offers at its last stage in Nice, a savvy mix of mountain and ocean for an exalted finish at the Promenade des Anglais.
Thus the city of Nice is particularly pleased and proud to welcome the 2007 edition of the Paris-Nice and, with it, all the admired cyclists that make its fame and ensure that it is a high-level competition.
Nice
Nice, the fifth largest French metropolitan area, sprawls sumptuously across the Bay of Angels to the mountains of the high country. This exceptional alchemy of sea and mountains attracts 4.5 million tourists each year and makes the capital of the Riviera a mecca for international tourism. But Nice is also a city solidly focused on sports, where some 70,000 registered athletes participate in 92 different activities. The city hosts numerous international sports events, like the Ironman France triathlon, the International Half-Marathon, Europétanque, the Henri Deglane International Wrestling Challenge and, of course, the Paris-Nice! Nice is above all a city that, at the initiative of its Mayor Jacques Peyrat (also Senator for Alpes-Maritimes and President of the Nice-Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Community), is sprucing up and building its future with the tramway – placed in service this year, the renovation of its primary cultural and tourist facilities, like the Place Masséna. With the impending construction of a large "Cité des Sports", Nice will boast a training and hosting capacity for high-level athletes.
Nice, a city in motion!
