A short stage with a brutal finish has had netted a significant change to several classifications and the big winner of the 125km race from Annecy to the ski station above the town, Annecy Semnoz, was Nairo Quintana. The Colombian won the stage in an emphatic manner and and gained several extras for finishing the race 17» ahead of Joaquim Rodriguez and 29» in front of Chris Froome. It was a day when Movistar did most of the work at the front of the peloton as the team knew it had the most to gain and Quintana duly delivered all three extras that he sought: a stage victory, the lead of the...Read more Key moments

A sporting view
Classed as a Town of Art and History, nicknamed the Venice of the Alps due to its three canals crossing the historic town, Annecy is well known for the heritage of its buildings and natural landscape and its quality of life. Situated besides the purest lake in Europe, at the foot of the Alpine massifs of the Aravis and the Bauges, but close to Switzerland and Italy, it benefits from an exceptional environment. This privilged situation contributes to its bustling economy, today mostly centred around the moving images industry, the outdoor sports industry and tourism. Overlooked by its 12th century château that today houses the Museum, Annecy has managed to protect its historic centre whilst using the natural landscape to develop numerous leisure activities for every season. Finally, throughout the year there are many cultural events that light up the capital of the Haute-Savoie including the Annecy International Animated Film Festival that took place last month whilst in August the Annecy Classic Festival and the Lake Festival will take place, the biggest fireworks show in Europe.

Annecy - Semnoz
The Semnoz massif is situated between Annecy and Allèves at the heart of the Bauges Natural Regional Park. Roman cartographers baptised it with the name Salmon due to its fish like shape. From its summit, le Crêt de Châtillon that reaches a height of 1,704 m, a superb panorama opens up most notably over Mont Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi, the Écrins massif and Beaufortain as well as over Lakes Annecy and Bourget. Nicknamed ‘the Anneciens' Mountain' and entirely forested apart from its peak, le Semnoz is the green lung of the city. Depending on the season there are all sorts of activities to take part in. In winter, you can enjoy skiing or alpine skiing or why not try a night in an igloo… in summer there is cycling, mountain biking, paragliding, summer tobogganing as well as the Quadrix buggy, an all terrain vehicle for wheelchair users. Of course, you can always walk through the pastures where local mountain butter and cheeses such as chevrotin, reblochon, tome des Bauges and Abondance are produced.
