The
Liège-Bastogne-Liège, created in 1892, is the
oldest race in cycling, and it has been given the nickname the
Doyenne. It is also one of the most prestigious
and difficult races of the season: 260 kilometers including
10 fearsome hill climbs, more than enough to delight cycling
fans and television viewers.
The Liège-Bastogne-Liège symbolises Belgiums
passion for cycling; a love story that should gain in strength
when a new page is written in 2004 with Wallonias hosting
of the Grand Start of the Tour de France.
This year again, this Ardennes classic will be highly coveted
and many talented riders will try to dethrone Paolo Bettini,
whose success in Ans helped him to capture the 2002 UCI World
Cup.
