Tourist attractions

Oatley

The town of Otley lies in lower Wharfedale at a bridging point of the River Wharfe, surrounded by stunning countryside and fantastic views.
Otley has a long and distinguished history dating back to at least Anglo-Saxon times. An historic market town, markets have been held here since the granting of a Royal Charter in 1222. Brimming with history and packed full of small independent shops, it's been at the heart of the beautiful lower Wharfe Valley for many centuries.
To the south, the Otley Chevin was the inspiration behind a number of Turner paintings and is worthy of attention for its stunning beauty and picturesque setting.
Home town of current women's road World Champion Lizzie Armitstead, there are not surprisingly many popular cycling routes to discover from Otley. Linked to several national cycling routes and visited by
the Tour de France in 2014, the town is a popular destination for both road cyclists and mountain bikers.

Doncaster

An historical market town at the southern edge of Yorkshire, Doncaster is known throughout the world for its horse racing and rail heritage.
In fact, the most famous locomotive in the world the Flying Scotsman was built in Doncaster. It was also the site of a Roman fort built on the banks of the River Don and named “Danum.” Although Doncaster itself is a large town, the wider borough covers an enormous area with attractive villages and wonderful green open spaces, including picturesque woodlands, river gorges and even moorlands. We pride ourselves on our wonderful attractions which also include museums and galleries, historic buildings, award winning market, sporting action, theatre, cinema and music. The internationally renowned Doncaster Racecourse is home to the St Leger, the world's oldest classic horse race, and our Yorkshire Wildlife Park, residence of the only polar bears in England, attracts over 600,000 visitors per year!
We benefit from excellent rail and road links, and Doncaster Sheffield Airport offers flights across Europe and beyond. Doncaster is a town looking to the future with a number of major developments paving the way for exciting times ahead!

What is there to win?

The rules are the bible for a sporting competition. Through their balance and subtleties they must ensure equality, motivate the riders and help spectators and viewers to understand the event. Here is an outline of the main points in the rules

Stakes

Whether leaders of a team or merely a team-mate, the riders on the Tour of Yorkshire try to excel, either individually or as a team. According to the stage profiles, changes in the general standings or some unexpected circumstance during the race, each rider adapts his objectives to the situation. The winners of the various prizes eventually share the honours and the money at stake with their team-mates. Enough to make (almost!) everybody happy.

ASDA, Official Partner

Asda

Following on from our involvement in the Grand Départ for the Tour de France in 2014, we are proud to be sponsoring the Women’s Tour de Yorkshire race. Our customers and colleagues have told us that they would love us to take an active role in providing information on the benefits of physical activity and help them live more active lifestyles. So it’s our responsibility as a business to help educate and encourage young people to take part in sport and be active. As a Yorkshire business we can’t think of a better way to do this than being part of the Women’s Tour de Yorkshire – we know the passion the county has for cycling and it’s exciting to be part of the event.

Andy Clarke, Asda President and CEO said: “It’s a privilege to be supporting the Women’s Tour De Yorkshire and helping to raise the profile of women’s sports. In 2014 Asda was the official partner of the Tour Makers for the Yorkshire Grand Départ, which was a resounding success. We’re incredibly proud of our Yorkshire roots and wanted to remain part of this exciting legacy that works to bring communities together in celebration of an amazing sport set against the backdrop of an unbeatable county.”

We are also excited to work with Welcome to Yorkshire and A.S.O. to make the Asda Women’s Tour de Yorkshire the most valuable women’s cycle race in the world. This will raise the profile of the women’s cyling, and shine the spotlight on Yorkshire, showing the world how we celebrate sport.

Our three-years sponsorship of the race is part of Asda’s ongoing commitment to helping and being part of communities. This covers everything from supporting charities such as Tickled Pink Breast Cancer Care and Tommy’s, and our Asda Active initiative where our colleagues support school sports days and sporting events.

AUNT BESSIE’S, Official partner

Aunt Bessie's

At Aunt Bessie’s we’re proud of our Northern roots. Our business was born in Yorkshire (and remains in Yorkshire) where we make the millions of Yorkshire puds and tasty treats loved by people up and down the country every week. We’re part of the William Jackson Food Group, a family business with 2,000 colleagues, built on the success of William Jackson who opened his first shop in Hull 162 years ago.

We started making Yorkshire puddings when Butlins Holiday Camps approached us back in 1974. Thirty years on and Aunt Bessie’s is still delivering a whole host of delicious food people know they can rely on; from roast dinner staples to seriously yummy midweek meals that take a matter of minutes to cook.

Our values are really important to us, as are our people and the community in which we operate. We were avid supporters of the Tour de Yorkshire last year, which inspired a group of our own colleagues to cycle across the country for charity. We’re really proud to be sponsoring the Women’s Sprint in what will no doubt prove to be another fantastic cycling event this year.
